Making a difference

Our mission is to provide quality homes for current and future generations and be an inspiring, trusted community partner and employer. The improvement work that we do is to make our homes better for tenants and the communities and the environment we live in. We want to share what we've achieved so far and the difference we are making

The positive changes

Cynon Taf Community Housing has succeeded in securing £1.7million from the Welsh Government between 2022 and 2025 through the Optimised Retrofit Programme. This money has been invested in making energy efficiency improvements to our homes by installing solar panels, triple glazed windows, loft insulation and other measures

What Has Been Achieved

The investement in our homes has meant benefits to tenants and to the planet. Below are the key figures on what has been achieved so far.

Solar Panel Installations

Since 2023, 188 homes have had solar PV panels installed which has resulted on average 25% lower electricity for households.

Home Battery Installations

10 homes have had 5.2kw batteries installed. The batteries have been able to store free electricity from solar panels for households to use during the evening when the sun isn't shining.

Triple glazed windows

93 homes have had triple glazed windows fitted making homes warmer and cheaper to run

Ventilation Upgrades

117 homes have had new extractor fans installed to help manage air flow in the property and reduce humity and increase fresh air

Loft Insulation

71 homes had new or topped up loft insualtion. The insulation has helped keep heat in the property for longer and reducing energy use in the home

SAP Ratings

The energy efficiency improvements have meant increase to EPC ratings in our homes. SAP ratings are used to indicate how well a property uses energy. The higher the rating the less energy the home is likely to use

CO2 Emissions Saved

It is estimated that over 135 tonnes of CO2e is saved each year across the homes which is the equivalent of driving a small car 675,000 miles or 84 fewer cars on the road each year

Estimated Savings to homes

It is estimated that tenants are saving an average of 25% on their electricity bills after Solar PV installation and 10% on their heating bills with upgrades to windows and loft insulation. This can mean up to £300 per household each year

Our Tenants: At the Heart of Everything We Do
Every improvement we make is designed to enhance your homes, strengthen communities, and protect the environment we all share.

Why Improvements Matter:

  • Better Homes: We invest in upgrades that make living spaces safer, warmer, and more energy-efficient.
  • Stronger Communities: Improvements create places where people feel proud to live and connect.
  • Sustainable Future: Every project considers environmental impact, helping us build a greener tomorrow.

We have already made significant progress. From modernised kitchens and bathrooms to energy-saving measures, these changes improve daily life for our tenants and reduce costs.

Making homes fit for the future

We’re upgrading some of our oldest or least energy efficient homes to help reduce how much energy they use and make them easier to heat.

These improvements will make your home more environmentally friendly and more comfortable now and for future generations of Cynon Taf tenants.

Here’s a video of the improvements to our sheltered scheme Cwrt Alun Lewis

“In the last 6 months I’m saving about  a 3rd on my electricity bills which is about £16 a month.  The money saved goes to help with the family  budget.  We don’t have to think about the bills as much. The company was very professional and tidied up after themselves with no problems.”
