What is an EPC?

An EPC is your homes Energy Performance Certificate and is a document that rates a duilding’s energy effiicency on a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). It provides information on energy use, typical costs, and recommendations for improvements, and is required when a property is built, sold, or rented

You can find your homes Energy Performance Certificate on the GOV.UK service

What an EPC tells you

  • Energy efficiency rating: A letter grade (A-G) showing how energy efficient the building is, with A being the most efficient.
  • Estimated energy use: The certificate shows the estimated energy usage over three years and its likely impact on your heating, lighting, and hot water costs.
  • CO2 emissions: It includes information on the building’s likely carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Recommendations for improvement: The certificate lists cost-effective ways to improve the rating, such as upgrading insulation or installing more efficient heating systems. It also estimates the cost of these improvements and the potential annual savings.
